Here are videos of pieces that I composed or where I played, sometimes both. The most recent extracts are at the bottom because I add them as I go along.

Pérégrémotions (Percussions, Régressions, Emotions), conservatoire de Genève, March 2004

An important youth pièce : Pérégrémotions (for Percussions, Regressions, Emotions), for three percussionists. Important because it was my first piece in “baby style”, that I since used in many pieces, including, of course, “Pérégrémotion II”. It was also the first time I was writing a piece morally difficult that was perfectly performed. (I take the opportunity to answer the question: yes, all the sounds are written. The only improvisation is when they throw the toy-horns on each other.) “They” are, from right to left, Richard Kuster, Max Dazas and Pascal Stauffer. That was in 2004. I thank them.

Opus forty centimetres (extract), Lapin Vert, May 2007

And here is an extract of my famous Opus forty centimetres for two performing artists. Here is a part of the first movement (that lasts for 26 minutes) and after that there are two more movements. The guy who hits is Cyril Regamey (bravo), and the guy in the underpants who is being beaten up in retrograde and in mirror (sorry for this joke that only composers will get), is me.

Opus forty centimetres (second extract), Lapin Vert, May 2007

And here is another extract of the Opus forty centimetres, a bit further in the same movement.

Aus den Sieben Tagen (Stockhausen), Lapin Vert, June 2007

And here is Nachtmusik, one of the pieces from the Aus den Sieben Tagen book, performed by le Car de Thon. (Camera: Alain Othenin-Girard.)

Le Car de Thon plays and draws in improvisation (extract), Lapin Vert, May 2007

And here is a video with Baladi drawing and Brice Catherin playing, with guest star Luc Müller (drums), whom we applaud with enthousiasm. (Camera: Coura Fofana.)

Le Car de Thon plays and draws in improvisation (second extract), Lapin Vert, May 2007

And here is another extract of the same show, but on the next day. This time I’m alone for the music, playing the electronic. And Baladi is still drawing. (Camera: Coura Fofana.)

Bristophe (extract 1), NDR, Hamburg (Deutschland), July 2007

And here is the first extract of what Bristophe produces. Bristophe is Brice Catherin + Christophe Schweizer. (Camera: Coura Fofana.)

Bristophe (extract 2), NDR, Hamburg (Deutschland), July 2007

And here is the second extract of what Bristophe produces. Bristophe is Brice Catherin + Christophe Schweizer. (Camera: Coura Fofana.)

Bristophe (extract 3), NDR, Hamburg (Deutschland), July 2007

And here is the third extract of what Bristophe produces. Bristophe is Brice Catherin + Christophe Schweizer. In this one we have two guests. (Camera: Coura Fofana.)

Oben und Unten (Stockhausen), Théâtre du Grütli, 12th of April 2008

Well, another Stockhausen, but this time we are playing the twenty first minutes (out of forty) of Oben und Unten, a piece from the book Aus den Sieben Tagen, and only theatre piece, as far as I know, written by Stockhausen, that, moreover, had never been played again since its premiere in Holland in 1969 (said his widow). Le Car de Thon played this for the Festival Archipel 2008, with Roberto Garieri (the man), Marc Olivetta (the woman), Léonard (the child), Yannick Barman (electronic), Benoît Moreau (piano), Luc Müller et Cyril Regamey (tamtam and microphone), Brice Catherin (cello), Jean Keraudren (filtering and spatialisation) and Delphine Rosay (set direction). (Camera : Delphine Rosay.)

Le Car de Thon plays and dances in improvisation, Théâtre du Grütli, November 2007

Here is quite a long extract of the show “le Car de Thon plays and dances in improvisation” at the theatre du Grütli in November 2007. For the occasion, le Car de Thon was Foofwa d’Imobilité and Lucie Eidenbenz (dance), with Edmée Fleury and Brice Catherin (music). (Camera : Adriana Caso Sarabia)

Improvisation of stereotypes, Théâtre du Grütli, 23rd of December 2007

And here is one of Brice Catherin’s favourite “improvisation laboratories”, named “improvisation of stereotypes” (or “improvisation of characters”) that was premiered here by Brice Catherin (cello and electronic) and Cyril Regamey (drums). This is more or less the second half of the improvisation. (Camera: Maya Boesch.)

Goldstaub (Karlheinz Stockhausen), théâtre du Grütli, 21st of June 2008

Luc Müller (drums), Yannick Barman (trumpet) and Brice Catherin (cello and recorders) played Goldstaub, one of the pieces from the book Aus den Sieben Tageb by Stockhausen. In order to play it, one has to spend four days without eating nor thinking, and sleeping as less as possible. We did it. It produced this. The movie is in two parts for uploading reasons. Here is the second part.

Pérégrémotion II (for Percussion, Regression, Emotion), Théâtre du Grütli, 14th of June 2008

When we remade the famous “Sixty-nine and Play Station Evening” (that was first premiered for the festival akouphène in 2005, which doesn’t make us sound younger) at the Grütli in 2008, we added to the program Brice Catherin’s not-less-famous “pérégrémotion II” (for Percussion, Regression, Emotion)”, played by the gentleman who premiered it two years earlier, Cyril Regamey (standing ovation). (Camera: Alvaro.)

Opus 69, long and hard version, version for female voice and cello (world premiere, Madame), Théâtre du Grütli, 14th of June 2008

During the same concert as the one mentioned above, we finally premiered the version for female voice and cello of Brice Catherin’s famous “Opus 69, long and hard version”. Here is an anonymous person singing and Brice Catherin playing the cello. It is unknown to us why Alvaro did not feel like shooting the first few seconds of the piece, but that is not too bad anyway. (Camera: Alvaro)

Le Car de Thon plays and draws in improvisation, children version, festival de la Bâtie, 11th of September 2008

That year le Car de Thon was invited to the Festival de la Bâtie. So we remade two of our hits, but in children versions. Here is an extract of “le Car de Thon plays and draws in improvisation”, with, as usual, Alex Baladi drawing. Benoît Moreau and Brice Catherin are playing.

Le Car de Thon plays and dances in improvisation, children version, festival de la Bâtie, 10th of September 2008

That year le Car de Thon was invited to the Festival de la Bâtie. So we remade two of our hits, but in children versions. Here is an extract of “le Car de Thon plays and dances in improvisation”, with, as usual, Foofwa d’Imobilité dacing, with guest star Ruth Childs (bravo). Luc Müller and Brice Catherin are playing.

Blakam and the huts and the Super Play Station 3 Turbo, outdoor version, festival akouphène, 17th, 20th and 14th of September 2008, various places in Geneva

That year le Car de Thon was invited to the Festival Akouphène. So we remade one of our hits, but in an outdoor version. We were literally hooking people in the street, by building our installation in three different public spaces before the festival in order to promote it. Music: Brice Catherin (electronic and toys), Frédéric Danel (guitare), Christian Magnusson (trumpet, 24th of September) and Luc Müller (drums, 20th of September). Acciones en Casa

The Forest City Rockers Motorcycle Club!
I can be a frog
Dans le living-room de ma tante
Hell dream
Spokes for the wheel of Torment
Five out of the nine video-clips on which Edmée Fleury (voice), Jean Rochat (drums) and Brice Catherin (cello) have composed and played new musics that had nothing to see with the original most of the time. The concept of "arabic phone" (a music, a video, a music) seemed particularly interesting to us.

Bristophe / Thierry Van Hasselt - Tableau 2 (Geneva version)
Bristophe gave a concert on Thierry Van Hasselt's "moving paintings" during the Electron Festival in Geneva in April 2011. The theme of the concert was "Electronic Unplugged", so we played totaly acoustic instruments and made them sound like they were electronic. This is Thierry's Tableau 2.
